Random Acts of Kindness

Keep the circle cycling

You have been the receiver, and you have been the giver.

It is a circle, an ever-repeating beautiful circle of giving and receiving. Like the performer gifts a performance and the audience gifts applause. The artist writes a story, the reader reads. The parent raises the child, the child cares for the aging parent. The circle of life.

I won’t tell you the acts I’ve done, I prefer to do them in secret.

You remember, don’t you, the kindnesses?

A stranger gave me a computer once. It arrived by surprise in a box and on that I wrote my first published story.

A stranger in Sydney gave me a summer dress and walking boots for I had only the clothes I wore.

The kind word, the fifty bucks, the couch, the compliment, the cup of sugar.
